Pediatric AdjustmentsThe Facts about Pediatric Chiropractic Care:
Pediatric chiropractic has existed for over 100 years and many childhood ailments will respond to this safe, natural form of health care. But why would a child even need chiropractic care? Children encounter many physical stresses during their growing years. This stress can cause problems in children’s spine and can occur at any point in their development. Chiropractic care is a non-invasive treatment option that has been successful in healing both children and adults. Not only do children deal with the stresses of a growing body, but some are born with health complications. Many newborn children suffer complications like colic, reflux, breastfeeding difficulties, sleep disturbances and chronic infections. These problems are all associated with the nervous system and are often caused by spinal and cranial misalignments. Chiropractors believe that the body is one unified system, and by treating one area you are making an impact on the whole system. Chiropractic care specifically deals with the nervous system and spine. Studies have shown that chiropractic can help children not only with typical back and neck pain complaints, but also with issues such as:

Cox Flexion DistractionSpinal decompression puts negative pressure on each disc, to alleviate the pressure and pain associated with compressed discs. When a disc is compressed, the disc material moves from its place between each disc, into the space occupied by the sensitive nerves. When the nerves become crowded, the patient experiences great pain and pressure at the region of injury. This pain may not be alleviated by even the strongest of pain medications. Many times, the condition warrants the use of highly addictive medications, such as morphine to mask the pain long enough to give the patient some relief.
Surgery attempts to treat the condition by shaving the part of the disc to create room for the material that is crowding the nerves. Spinal decompression aims to eliminate the source of the pain, help recuperate the health of the disc, therefore eliminating the need for risky spine surgery and the subsequent months of down time post-surgery. Graston Technique Dr. Dean is certified in Graston Technique, which is a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. The specially designed stainless steel Graston tools are used to detect and treat areas of the body that exhibit soft tissue fibrosis or scar tissue. The tools gently break up adhesions and scar tissue that has built up in the muscles and fascia. If you break down the scar tissue it can get rid pain and improve strength and range of motion. Graston is a technique that is highly utilized by athletes, though it works great for anyone who suffers from tight, stiff muscles from repetitive motion injuries or even bad posture. |
Prenatal CareChiropractic adjustments offer relief of back pain, sciatica, and pelvic pain related to pregnancy utilizing specific techniques for moms-to-be. The alignment of the pelvis is of utmost importance for pregnant patients as its balance diminishes the body’s chances for dystocia (difficulty) during labor.
If a pelvis is misaligned (subluxated), as a result of the sacrum being displaced, it will directly affect the tension of the ligaments that support the uterus. A uterus under tension provides less space for the baby to move freely inside the womb, which may affect its development and optimum position for birth. Dr. Kayla utilizes the Webster Technique to restore proper mechanics of the pelvis and proper alignment of the sacrum with the SI joints. In so doing, a baby in-utero is allowed adequate space to move, develop and align in the proper position prior to birth. Dr. Kayla finds it prudent that pregnant mothers be checked regularly with this specific sacral analysis and adjustment throughout the pregnancy. Because pregnant mothers face particular adaptations from the increase of specific hormones, weight gain and postural adaptations, they have a greater chance of pelvic and sacral subluxations with neuro-biomechanical imbalance than the general population. The benefits of prenatal chiropractic care are immeasurable for both the mother and developing baby. |

What is an Adjustment?Chiropractic adjustments are specific correcting movements of misaligned vertebrae in the spine, performed by a chiropractor. The objective of this movement is to correct spinal subluxations, which are those misaligned vertebrae that induce stressful interference on the nervous system.Subluxations can occur anywhere in the spine, and they are a direct result of lifestyle encounters in trauma, toxicities/deficiencies, and thoughts (The 3 Ts). Misaligned vertebrae can induce interference to the nerves that exit the spine via the brain stem and spinal cord. When these vertebrae are out of place, the subsequent stress on the nervous system can generate systemic effects, such as: pain, change in sensation, muscle spasms, postural distortions, dysfunction and spinal decay.
With proper spinal alignment and optimal flow of all spinal nerves, the body is more apt to express its health potential by healing, adapting, growing, maintaining and performing to its God-given potential. A perfectly aligned spine is the excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level. |
